Pre-Purchase Inspections

Pre-Purchase Inspections

The pre-purchase inspection is a very important element in the purchase of a used aircraft.  Since Super Cubs are often used in bush areas and sometimes don’t get quality routine maintenance, there can be thousands of dollars worth of hidden damage and neglect that might surprise a buyer.     With our 30 years of experience maintaining and restoring Super Cubs, we know exactly where to look for hidden problems with used aircraft, and we can advise a buyer about how to proceed with a purchase.

The inspection consists of most of the elements of an annual inspection, with particular emphasis on powerplant, tubing structure, and fabric covering, as well as a complete logbook and paperwork review of the aircraft.   We often test fly the aircraft to evaluate any in flight or rigging issues that might need to be addressed.  A pre-purchase inspection generally takes about 8 to 12 hours to complete, and we nearly always discover repairs needed which are valued at several times the cost of the inspection.  No one should purchase a used Cub without having it evaluated by an expert.
